When it was discovered that iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS owners could update to a special iPad baseband
to become unlocked on the latest firmware at the time, which I believe was iOS 4.1/4.2.1, numerous people took advantage of it. Unfortunately there was some risks involved that a lot of people did not realize however that included not being able to restore to stock IPSW’s, voiding your warranty in an obvious way and even GPS ceasing to function in some cases.
For those of you who have been hoping that a downgrading solution would come to downgrade from the 06.15.00 baseband to a regular iPhone baseband you will be glad to know we may see a tool released to do just this shortly. The news comes from hacker MuscleNerd who recently tweeted he has made great progress on a 06.15.00 downgrading solution.
He then further clarified his previous tweet by stating that his downgrading solution will allow aniPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G to downgrade from 06.15.00 to a baseband prior to 05.13.04. It is without a doubt that this is some great news for those who are stuck on the 06.15.00 and do not have functioning GPS! Although there was no timeline associated with a public release of the06.15.00 baseband downgrade, I am sure we can expect something in the near future.
