Google I/O 2012 Keynote – Day 1 [Watch Now]

This has been a crazy month for keynote addresses. Microsoft announced the Surface tablets last week, and the week
before that Apple released the MacBook Pro with Retina display and dropped details about iOS 6 and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. That’s great if you’re a Microsoft or Apple aficionado, but what if you’re into Android and nifty web apps? The Google I/O 2012 keynote is now available on YouTube.

So what did Google have to offer at Google I/O 2012? Well,
Google+ got a an overhaul on Android, with new party photo stream demoed in the presentation. If you’re looking for reasons to switch from Facebook, take a look.

Speaking of Android, there’s
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s latest revision to the Android platform. Jelly Bean introduces tons of new features and an updated notification system, but what you’ll really be wondering is how they got the interface to run so smoothly. Luckily that’s explained in the keynote.

If you’re an Android user, you also might also be interested in the improvements Google is rolling out for the Play Store, such as smart apps which will roll out patches when updating apps, instead of downloading an entire new app.

But it wouldn’t be a keynote without hardware. There’s the Nexus 7, a $199 7-inch tablet running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. And the
Nexus Q, a set top computer for playing online content. Will the Nexus Q be picked up by mainstream buyers in the way that the Apple TV hasn’t?

There are also more details on Google’s upcoming Project Glass augmented reality glasses. Take a look if you’re interested in what’s coming after smart phones.

The keynote video is just over two hours long. If you don’t want to sift through the whole conference, we will post more of the highlights on iJailbreak.
