Facebook To Release A Major Update To Facebook SDK For iOS

Although Facebook is undoubtedly the world’s largest social network with the rest of the offerings paling into insignificance by comparison, the recent public attention that has been lavished on the company in the last few months is enough to make even Mark Zuckerberg and his team feel a little pressure. The acquisition of Instagram and the company’s initial public offering have made sure that all eyes are firmly fixed on Palo Alto.

Recent announcements at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco have also brought the news that Facebook will receive the iOS and OS X treatment, being heavily integrated in the soon to be released OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 6. To the delight of iOS developers all over the world, the native integration into iOS allows Facebook features to be implemented into applications a lot easier than before where app makers previously had to jump through a variety of authorization hoops that provided a fairly negative user-experience.

Carrying on with the good news, Jason Clark has taken to the official Facebook Developer Blogto make an announcement surrounding the future of the official Facebook iOS softwaredevelopment kit. Without going into to much information with the post, Clark mentions that developers can expect to see an updated and enhanced SDK that brings a number of feature improvements and enhancements that will assist developers when it comes to adding social network support into apps. No definitive timescales have been set for the launch of the SDK, but it should be expected to drop in the next few weeks.

Keeping with all things Facebook, the Palo Alto based social network have also announced that they are remaining on the acquisition trail by snapping up Face.com, the world’s most accurate facial recognition platform. Unlike the Instagram purchase this hasn’t come as any great surprise, with rumors splashing around the tech world for the last few weeks about the possible purchase of the Israeli founded company. At the present moment in time, we can’t be positive what Facebook’s plans are for their new recognition software, but with Face.com producing apps that finds and detect faces in images, it is likely that the social behemoth will find a way to integrate that into their website as well as possibly using the technology in the rumored Facebook smartphone.
