Windows Phones 7 Not Compatible with Windows Phone 8 Upgrade

Word on the street is that the existing line up of the Windows Phone 7 powered handsets, such as the Nokia Lumia 800
, won't be upgradable to Microsoft's forthcoming OS mobile platform Windows 8 - codenamed Apollo. Needless to say, if this rumour turns out to be true, then it may result in becoming the biggest setback for those using devices running on WP7.

Further reports suggest that Microsoft are taking steps to ensure that the larger chunk of WP7 powered devices get the massively anticipated WP Tango update, however, when it comes to the Windows Phone 8, nothing concrete has been stated as yet.

According to ongoing rumours, the Apollo update will allow handset makers to come up with high-end devices, which will be prepared to take on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S3.

However, prominent tech editor, Eldar Murtazin, revealed that chances are high in that the forthcoming Apollo update will totally ignore the devices powered by its ancestor of the WP7.

"Last night we had a quick chat with the Editor in Chief of Mobile-Review on Twitter and he suggested that today's Windows Phones will be left in the dust come September when Apollo is due to take the spotlight,"
